Biography

Professor Hay has extensive higher education experience, including as Dean (Education) in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor at Flinders University. He also served as Discipline Scholar for the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities with the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. His other current roles include as a Director on HCi’s (Health Care Insurance) Board and as a non-Executive Director on the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) Board.  

Iain completed a PhD at the University of Washington as a Fulbright Scholar and was awarded a higher doctorate (LittD) from the University of Canterbury, NZ. His numerous honours for contributions to education include the 2006 Prime Minister’s award for Australian University Teacher of the Year. He has also been admitted to a Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences, and Fellowship of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
