“Passion and purpose” – AIB’s Sydney Leadership Masterclass featuring Naomi Simson

On the 23rd of April, the Australian Institute of Business hosted a Leadership Masterclass in the picturesque Heritage Ballroom at the Westin Sydney. The event featured Naomi Simson – entrepreneur, author, LinkedIn influencer and ‘Shark’ on Network TEN’s Shark Tank, who presented to over 160 guests including AIB alumni, current students, industry guests and staff members.

Our host for the evening was AIB Academic Director, Professor Angele Cavaye, who shared some of AIB’s recent updates, introduced Naomi and welcomed our guests to the highly anticipated event.

Naomi Simson is one of Australia’s leading entrepreneurs and the Founding Director of RedBalloon, one of the most successful online gift and experience retailers. RedBalloon is a business based on happiness and since its creation in 200, the retailer has sold more than 2.3 million experiences to customers across Australia and New Zealand. The company has also been named a BRW ‘Great Place to Work’ four times running, authenticating Naomi’s leadership style.

Naomi shared a number of defining experiences from her business journey to date including what she learnt in the corporate world, how RedBalloon was founded and how she grew it to be the highly successful business it is today.

Naomi explained the keys to running a successful brand and being an effective leader are: passion, purpose, positivity and persistence. Naomi attributes much of her success as a leading Australian entrepreneur and business thought leader to her passion for what she does.

“You either love what you do or you don’t. If you do, you don’t have to work another day in your life. When you are driven by passion, it doesn’t occur as work,” she explained.

At the conclusion of the masterclass, guests were invited to ask Naomi questions, during which she gave out autographed copies of her book “Live What You Love”. Following this, our guests gathered for an opportunity to network with attendees from a variety of backgrounds over drinks and canaps.

Our guests found the event to be both informative and inspiring, with a few taking to social media to share their feedback.

One attendee shared on Social Media: “Great night – inspiring yet real speaker, amazing venue, great service, informed AIB staff and relevant networking – congratulations on pulling off a successful event in Sydney.”

Another commented “She is a fantastic speaker. Very inspirational. I learnt so much in an hour!”

Naomi’s shared a number of valuable business lessons with the guests, a snapshot of which can be found on the AIB blog here.
