At our 2014 Graduation Ceremony, we were able to speak to a few of our fantastic graduating students about their experiences with AIB. MBA Graduate Shaun Barclay took some time to chat with us about his reasons for completing an MBA, and his advice for future students.

Why did you choose to study your MBA from AIB?

I found that the flexibility AIB offered was really handy, in terms of juggling work and home life commitments – that was really important to me. The content was also really good; it actually enhanced the skills I have picked up over the years.

So how has completing an MBA changed your life?

I have been in management positions for the last 20 years, so a lot of the skills I picked up throughout my career have been enhanced by the lessons in the MBA. I’ve filled in the skill gaps that were there, so it’s made me a better manager.

How did you manage the challenges of balancing work commitments and study?

It was all around the planning. I planned my life around my study commitments for 12 months, but my wife and family were really supportive of my efforts.

What is the one piece of advice you would give to students looking to study the MBA?

What I would say is, have a look at the course you are going to study. You must commit to completing your studies, because it takes a lot of dedication, planning and effort. But it’s definitely worth it in the end.
