There are countless reasons to study an MBA. Some people want to develop advanced management skills, others want to enhance their career prospects, some just want to finally start working ‘on the business’ rather than being stuck ‘in the business’. Either way, an MBA streamlines the process to achieving success in your career. So, ask yourself this, how would you define success in your career? Success can take on many forms and vary depending on your unique goals. Some people choose to study an MBA to achieve:
- a bigger pay check,
- nicer home,
- a promotion,
- newer car, or
- increasing the value of their business.
If you are reading this, you’ve most likely reviewed other business schools in Canada or in the neighbouring US. We know, there is an overwhelmingly large number of programs out there. Your brain, your inbox and your phone is probably full of information from multiple course brochures. You’ve done the research, but deciding on where to study your MBA can be an extremely challenging task.
The practical reasons to study an MBA are commonly advertised by most providers, but, have you ever considered the alternative reasons?
AIB is here to simplify your decision-making process by highlighting some unheard-of reasons we bet you’ve never considered before.
We are thrilled that the Australian Institute of Business is on your shortlist. Currently, over 1,300 Canadians choose to study their MBA with AIB and they all share one thing in common;
At one point in time, they’re asked by their colleagues and friends “Why on earth are you doing your MBA with an Australian business school?”
Here is list of their common responses and reasons you’ve never considered before:
“I love wine, cheese and fine dining”
Our business school is headquartered in Adelaide, South Australia. This is where our administration, student support team and academics live and this is where our graduations are held (we have an office in Ottawa for our auxiliary Student Recruitment staff). Spending a graduation weekend in South Australia is an experience like no other. Sample some of the world-famous wines and taste the fine-dining experiences that South Australia is renown. Serving as the gateway to all breathtaking South Australian regions from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills to Clare Valley – Adelaide is the Great Wine Capital of Australia and has earned this title for a reason.

“Student support, around the clock”
Time-zones can be tricky to figure out, however, when studying with AIB, they actually work in your favour.
Most Canadian students are working full-time or own their own business, so they are usually catching up with studies in the evenings after work. During those times, you may wish to contact student support or speak to a member of the teaching staff. Lucky for you, evenings in Canada are mornings in Australia. You can contact us or schedule a Zoom call and get your questions answered rapidly. Much faster than if you were waiting for Canadian office hours to resume.
“I’ll have friends in Australia”
Here at Australian Institute of Business, Australians make up the largest cohort of our students (that’s why for several years in a row, the Australian Department of Education and Training ranks us as the #1 provider of online MBAs in the country, as we have the highest number of students studying our MBA).
During your studies, you’ll forget what it feels like to be isolated. Class forums and communities provided by AIB ensure students are more connected than ever before. Check out our Community Hub to see the list of student and alumni social channels and groups.
“I can visit Australia”
Did you know that we locally host up to two graduation ceremonies each year? All students from around the world are invited to visit Australia and receive your hard-earned degree parchment in-person. Our graduation ceremonies create moments that last in student’s memories forever, not to mention they are full of entertainment and excitement. On average, it takes two years to complete an MBA with us, so by 2023 we hope COVID-19 is a distant memory, (more like a bad dream).
Here are some recordings of past graduations where you can experience the irreplaceable moments for yourself:
End-of-Year 2019 – skip to 01:37:35 to hear a speech of one of the 2019 Valedictorians, your fellow Canadian, Debbonaire Reid-Spirk
Mid-Year 2019 – skip to 23:08 to hear a speech by our Academic Dean Professor Ingrid Day
Mid-Year 2019 – skip to 01:04:31 to hear our 2019 Valedictorian Nicole Linda Floyd
Upon graduation, reward yourself with a trip to Australia and New Zealand. From Adelaide, you can ride the legendary Ghan to take you through Australia’s Red Centre upwards to the tropical north of Australia.
Or, take a direct flight from Adelaide to Auckland and explore the vast landscapes of New Zealand.
The travel opportunities are endless, why not experience them all?
Overall, when it comes to evaluating the reasons to study an MBA, simply considering the quantitative level reasons alone (such as making more money and climbing the corporate ladder) can be a short-sighted approach to decision making. We’re here to inform you of the irreplaceable qualitative reasons to choose the right MBA provider, such as creating moments, memories and experiences throughout your learning journey that you can cherish for the rest of your life.
Who said studying an MBA had to be a boring experience? It sure wasn’t us.
