Why did you decide to study an MBA?

I had a healthcare background originally and I moved into the commercial side of medical devices, and I wanted to progress in my career. A lot of people who had similar roles to me had business backgrounds and I felt that that was a limiting factor for me in my career. So researching with my partner doing the MBA, she found it a very flexible course with the AIB. It fit my needs to be able to do the grad cert and the grad dip and then finally the MBA. It was able to give me that experience to be able to move onto the career path that I’m now following.

How are you applying the skills you learned from the MBA to your role?

I’m applying a lot of the skills I learned through the MBA in my current role. A lot of my subjects were New Product Development, Marketing Management; I did a lot of marketing subjects in the MBA. I’m currently now looking after one of the largest portfolios in Intraocular Lenses in Australia, looking after the marketing for that in my role.

Also, we’re launching a brand new product, a really innovative product. Its next-level with medical devices and I’m lending a lot of my skills to be able to make that a best in class launch for the company I work for.

Would you attribute any of your career success to having done the MBA?

I would absolutely attribute the MBA to career success. My current role, part of the prerequisites for the role was to have an MBA. I was partway through that when I applied for the role. Also, the learnings have really helped me exceed the expectations of my role at the present point in time.
