Drew Michel, experienced media professional had worked across broadcasting, television, radio and music for the better part of 2 decades.

As a means to progress his career and take it to the next level, Drew embarked on his MBA, completing in 2020. One of the biggest standouts for Michael was the promotion he attained as the Senior Director of International Business Operations for worldwide media conglomerate, Paramount, responsible for managing the media supply chain side of their business.

With a fruitful return on his investment in himself, we spoke to Drew to hear more about his experience at AIB.

What motivated you to start an MBA?

My sister, in fact, did a master’s through AIB, and she suggested I do that to help my career and advancement. And I think for my, for my job, it was the best thing I’ve ever done.

What fears did you have before starting and what advice do you give to others?

My fears, when I first started were not being able to finish, to be able to do the subjects or being able to write an essay. It had been a very long time since I’d had to do something like that. So, I think that was my initial fear not being able to do it. But I think the support from AIB, support from my family and also my wife got me through that.

So definitely scared when you first start, but once you get through that, you can do anything.

How did you find the support at AIB?

During the course I think AIB offers all levels of support, whether it be to help you write an essay, or a sounding board, I think you can get as much help as you possibly need.

And I think the tools that they offer, with essay checking, all those kinds of things, will help you on your journey doing your masters.

Do you have any successes you attribute to studying your MBA?

I think after doing the MBA, I think the skills that I learned through the course, and I’ve been able to apply that to my job. And I think that was recognised with the work that I was doing. That led to a recent promotion.

So, I’ve taken over the media supply chain through Asia Pacific for Paramount. And I think, you know, whether it be project management, finance any of the courses and I guess subjects that we did, through the masters of business, have been able to apply in my day-to-day job. So it’s been very beneficial.
