Kae Hum shares insights on how to grow your personal brand and maximise your business opportunities with LinkedIn at AIB’s exclusive student and alumni event.

LinkedIn professionals Michael Levine and Kae Hum have travelled across Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Canberra to share their online networking and marketing tips with AIB’s alumni, current students and industry guests.

More than 400 students, alumni and industry guests attended the events held across the four cities from April to June, gaining insider advice on optimising and leveraging their LinkedIn presence to enhance their exposure and recruit talent for their business.

“LinkedIn is no longer a place to upload your CV and wait for the recruiter’s response – it’s a place where you need to manage your professional brand on an ongoing basis, share thought leadership back with your network, and contribute to conversations,” Mr Levine said.

“Your alumni network as part of the Australian Institute of Business is a powerful one; one that you will hopefully take with you throughout your career. It’s a powerful tool that gives you a competitive advantage in the workforce.”

Within the sessions, both Mr Levine and Mr Hum shared the advantages of networking on LinkedIn including for most users, the ability to connect with your professional network, to stay informed of industry updates, and to get a job, grow your career, or find employees for your business.

“LinkedIn is a disruptive product because it allows recruiters to proactively go after passive talent – the right person for your job isn’t always the person who applied, but perhaps the person who is content in their current job, who you can find through LinkedIn.”

The presentations both concluded with a Q&A session, where many guests took the opportunity to ask questions about the difference between the premium and free LinkedIn accounts, how to use keywords to maximise the visibility and relevance of their LinkedIn profile, and the relevance of the traditional paper resume in today’s modern online world.

Following each event, students had the opportunity to network with fellow students and alumni, AIB staff and industry guests over canapes and beverages, and ask Mr Levine and Mr Hum any further questions they had about the LinkedIn site.
