Federal Canadian Student Aid Update

The Canadian Federal Government has made changes to student aid eligibility which may affect you as an ongoing AIB student. These changes will apply to all provinces in Canada.

Please note, interpretation and enforcement of these changes is up to the discretion of individual provinces. AIB cannot confirm student eligibility. Students are responsible for confirming their own eligibility with their local provincial student aid office.

Upcoming changes

  • Students commencing their studies at private international institutions including AIB on or after August 1st 2026 will no longer be eligible to receive federal Canada student aid (including grants and loans).
  • AIB students who have received student aid funding prior to August 1st 2026 may apply to continue receiving student aid until July 31st 2029.

How will this impact ongoing AIB students?

If you began your studies with AIB on or before Term 4.5 2026 you may be eligible to continue receiving federal Canada student aid until July 31st 2029 as long as the following criteria are met:

  • You continue studying at the same institution (AIB)
  • You continue studying within the same program
  • You do not take any continuous study breaks of more than six months (by date, not by term)
  • You continue to meet any other eligibility criteria as laid out by your provincial provider

If your enrolment into the MBA was conditional upon the successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Management (GCM) i.e. your MBA entry was confirmed with advanced standing, we do not anticipate this affecting you once you’ve passed your GCM. However, if you only enrolled into the GCM then this change is likely to impact you and we recommend you contact your provincial student aid provider as soon as possible.

If you received federal Canada student aid on or before July 31st 2026, you may receive a notice from your provincial student aid provider advising you of the update and your ability to request consideration for continued funding.
