5 Minutes with MBA Graduate Leslie McGuire
We recently sat down with MBA graduate Leslie McGuire to find out what the MBA experience was like for him, and any advice he would share with new students.
What was your background and role before you took on the MBA?
I was involved in corporate management. I worked in senior management for many companies and even in the role of CFO in big tier firms. I’ve always been very passionate about business and financial advice, so the Master’s degree was the next step and an essential step in developing my career.
Why did you choose to study your MBA at AIB?
When I was trying to decide on an MBA course, I contacted a number of different universities and providers. AIB offered a great practical programme where you could apply real-life examples and things that were happening in business, which to me is the most important thing.
What is one piece of advice you would offer to students who are starting their MBA?
Don’t try to overthink each subject. Sit back and think about the meaning of a concept in a real-life context. I would say don’t overthink it; just work through it in a lateral sense as opposed to trying to complicate it.
Throughout your MBA journey, did you receive the assistance you needed from AIB?
I didn’t necessarily need to constantly call, but every time I did call, and especially when I was completing my final project at the end, I found them to be incredibly helpful. Engaging with Academics certainly helped me apply the principles that I was trying to achieve.
