5 Minutes with MBA Graduate Simon Berry
MBA Graduate Simon Berry graciously took the time to speak to us about his AIB experience, why he chose to complete an MBA and how his perception and understanding has changed since graduating from the AIB 12 Month MBA.
What made you decide to pursue an MBA with AIB?
I’m from a media and advertising background, and I chose to complete an MBA to broaden my horizons and gain new knowledge. You go into an MBA not knowing what you don’t know, and you come away with a new appreciation for learning, and applying that learning. You’ve got a starting point to then know where to go, or what resource to pull. You may not be an expert on that particular area, but you know the fundamentals of what you need to know in order to get the answers that you’re seeking.
What advice would you give to people considering an MBA?
For me, if you’re going to give your time to doing an MBA, I think you need to do it and give everything. You approach the course with the knowledge that what you are willing to put in will shape what you get out of the course.
Has your perception of the MBA changed now that you’ve completed one?
Absolutely. I’ve learnt that just because you have an MBA, it doesn’t mean you’re going to be brilliant. But it certainly tells you that someone has some nous in being able to approach business situations. I know that anyone who has an MBA title next to their name, they’ve done what I’ve done and that shows me that they have the ability to pursue and complete something of substance to its fruition. I have a great appreciation for that.
