4 Ways To Know If Youre A Real Entrepreneur


The term ‘entrepreneur’ tends to be used quite loosely across a number of business networks. According to Business Dictionary, the definition of a real entrepreneur is “someone who exercises initiative by organising a venture to take benefit of an opportunity, and, as the decision maker, decides what, how, and how much of a good or service will be produced”. In addition, they “are not necessarily motivated by profit, but regard it as a standard for measuring achievement or success”.  Apart from the requirement of starting a venture, what else makes a real entrepreneur? See below for our top four indicators.

1. You are extremely passionate

When starting a venture, a real entrepreneur will not pursue it because it is going to make them millions; they pursue it because of their overwhelming passion for it. True passion is what helps entrepreneurs overcome challenges, proving those who said they couldn’t do it wrong. When entrepreneurs work crazy hours to get the job done, it is because they love what they do.

2. You think outside the box

To be an entrepreneur, innovation should be your middle name. For real entrepreneurs, innovation has a whole different meaning – it’s not just about doing something better, it’s about doing something differently. Thinking outside of the box is your specialty, and something you thrive off. Don’t let failed ideas get you down – as Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.”

3. You are a strong communicator

You may not be the biggest people person, but when it comes to conveying your ideas and opinion, this is your strength. In a world full of other opinions, a real entrepreneur must be able to clearly communicate what they wish to achieve. This does not mean that they are forceful and assertive, they are diplomatic yet influential.

4. You lead, not follow

For a real entrepreneur, there is no following. From the very outset, entrepreneurs know what they want and they don’t stop until they achieve it. They don’t take no for an answer, and tend to be very competitive. Steve Jobs said, “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance”. When you think about business ideas, more often than not, these stem from someone thinking they can do a better job. Real entrepreneurs have that mentality, and won’t let anyone get in their way.
