Orientation at AIB

Your journey starts here.

Congratulations on taking this exciting step in starting your study journey! Your decision to invest in yourself and your education is a significant achievement, and our Orientation program is designed to help you start strong.

Over three weeks before your first term of either the Graduate Certificate in Management (GCM) or the Master of Business Administration (MBA), you’ll gain the skills, tools, and confidence to start studying successfully online with AIB. In fact, our data shows that students who choose to complete the Orientation program feel more prepared and consistently achieve stronger academic results than those who don’t.

Whether you’re new to studying or returning after a break, AIB’s Orientation program is carefully designed to help you get familiar with the AIB online learning portal, the resources available to you, and importantly to feel ready and supported from day one.

What you’ll learn

This Orientation program is specifically designed for students commencing the GCM or MBA and is built around five practical modules:

  • Plan: Get organised and set up your study space and tools.
  • Identify: Learn how to find and use AIB’s key study resources.
  • Uphold: Understand academic integrity and how to write with confidence.
  • Find: Explore how to search, reference and use credible academic sources.
  • Connect: Meet your community and discover how to access support.

Each module helps you build essential study skills at your own pace. You’ll also complete a few required tasks to get you fully prepared for your first subject.

What you’ll need to complete

There are three tasks to complete before starting your first subject:

  1. Checklist: Set up your study tools/download required software and locate your key AIB resources and contacts.
  2. Academic Integrity Quiz: Learn what’s expected and how to uphold AIB’s academic standards.
  3. Short Writing Task: Submit a brief piece of writing, modelled on your first Leadership assessment.

If you’re new to studying, we highly recommend you work your way through all 5 modules before you start your first subject. For those more experienced with studying, feel free to explore the modules as required . Please be reassured that the modules will remain available throughout your studies, allowing you to revisit them at any time to refresh your skills and knowledge.

Live & recorded webinars

The Orientation program is available for three weeks before your first subject begins and can be accessed anytime throughout your course. During this three-week period, you’ll be able to join live webinars designed to help you get the most out of your Orientation experience.

Each one-hour session is interactive and practical, with recordings available afterwards. Popular sessions include:

  • How to Use Your Time in Orientation
  • New to Referencing?
  • New to Academic Writing?
  • Orientation to Leadership: Handover Q&A

During these sessions you’ll also have the chance to meet AIB’s Orientation Coordinator who is also one of AIB’s Librarians and connect with fellow students – a great way to start building your network at AIB.

Your toolkit for success

As an AIB student, you’ll also have exclusive access to a range of resources designed to strengthen your academic skills and support your success. During Orientation, our team will guide you through the resources available and provide support to get set up and ready to go.
