Why did you decide to study an MBA?

I decided to study an MBA because I really wanted to hone the skills I had already learnt on the job in the previous roles I had had. I come from a various range of backgrounds: marketing, sales, also product development. I think the MBA really solidified everything I’ve learnt in those roles, really helped me to forge a better process in the business I’m working in today.

Can you tell us a little any challenges or setbacks that you may have encountered on your MBA journey?

The MBA journey had challenges, obviously. I think everyone will tell you it’s time. Trying to find the time and dedicate the time to study, and to work on your papers and prepare for exams. Having family time as well is really important. What it really taught me about timing is anyone who’s done the MBA or been through this process can apply themselves, and they have to apply themselves.

How did you overcome that challenge?

I overcame the challenges around time just being really prepared. The AIB gave us quite a good calendar of events – where we had to be and what we had to do. Making sure you prepare yourself and make sure you make the time to actually do it.

Would you attribute any of your career success having done the MBA?

What the MBA has really done for me in the business that I’m in today is given me a skill set where I can grow and develop in the business. As I said, it’s a new business, a newly merged business, we’re growing. Having the MBA, the backing of that MBA and the skill sets it’s provided, puts me in a good position to move up inside the business.
