Why did you decide to study an MBA?

I decided to study an MBA for two reasons really. Firstly, I wanted to increase my understanding of contemporary business practice. Secondly, I wanted to challenge myself and reward myself by undertaking a study program.

Would you attribute any of your career success to having done the MBA?

I have to say by completing the MBA I think I’ve been very fortunate in my career. I’ve recently been promoted into a senior executive level role and I believe that’s due to, in a large part, to the fact that I’ve completed an MBA and demonstrated that I have an understanding of modern business practices.

Looking back on your MBA journey, what were the best parts and greatest challenges for you?

The best parts of the MBA challenge, the consistency of it I think. I enjoyed the getting into a routine about learning, learning new skills, learning a new way of thinking, learning to learn again was probably one of the highlights.

Some of the challenges though was finding the time. Other life things come into place like I remember completing an assignment, pushing send on an assignment an hour before attending my mother’s funeral. So, sometimes you’re challenged to fit everything into your life; by planning you get around that though.

Would you like to add any further reflections or thoughts about your MBA journey?

My final reflections and thoughts about the MBA is I would encourage anyone who hasn’t necessarily been in a structured study program before to make the decision and make the commitment and make a plan and make it happen. It’s doable. You don’t have to come from an academic background to consider an MBA program.
