How did you come to be in the role you’re in now?

It was a long journey. I started off as a very junior-level admin assistant, and through the process, I learned the business and I got involved. I was just hungry to learn and hungry to develop. I think that having important people in your life who push you through, is quite a motivator. My mentor at the time put some challenges in my way that I had to overcome, and through that journey and through that experience I’ve learnt and developed and I think that has brought me here.

Why did you decide to study an MBA?

I think it was more just to validate my technical skills, my managerial capability, and just to give me that platform to have some kind of weighting or backing with my expertise that I currently had. I do not, or did not, have a previous certification within my expertise that I eventually ended up in, and this gives me some weighting and it opens a lot of doors for me to expand my knowledge and obviously for career growth.

What were the best aspects of studying online with AIB?

Having access to the lecturers in the timeous manner. I think the turnaround times were great. Having access to doing online exams was convenient. And the flexibility of it all, having to study at your own pace without having to attend lectures physically, and just sitting down wherever you can – like opening up a book whilst waiting in a queue or just doing it at work. I think the convenience of having to do that, not in a structured way, but at your own pace, that assisted.

How has the AIB MBA helped you with any type of career progression or career success?

Immediately after I was done with my MBA journey and received my achievement, I was considered for an executive position. I don’t think that I would have been put forward for such a role had I not gone through the journey and applied my skill and refined it in a way to be outstanding in this particular scenario.
